WHEREAS, the Village of Richton Park proudly celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2026, marking a century of growth, resilience, community pride, and unwavering commitment to progress since its incorporation on June 8, 1926; and

WHEREAS, long before its incorporation, the land that would become Richton Park served as an important crossroads for Indigenous peoples, with the historic Sauk Trail functioning as a significant route used by the Sauk and Potawatomi peoples for travel, trade, and connection between settlements and sacred areas across the region; and

WHEREAS, Richton Park’s history is deeply tied to the broader American story of freedom and opportunity, with historical accounts identifying portions of the region as part of the Underground Railroad, offering refuge and hope to enslaved Africans and African Americans seeking liberation and safe passage toward freedom in Canada; and
