MINOW WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Newton N. Minow celebrated his 90th Birthday on January 17, 2016; and WHEREAS, Newton N. Minow was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 17, 1926; and WHEREAS, Newton N. Minow honorably served his country in the China-Burma-India theater in World War II from 1944 to 1946 and attained the rank of a sergeant in the U.S. Army; and WHEREAS, Newton N. Minow received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949 from Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor degree in 1950 from Northwestern University Law School; and WHEREAS, Newton N. Minow served as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Fred M. Vinson of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1951 and then Assistant Counsel to Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson in 1952; and WHEREAS, Newton N. Minow was appointed by President John F. Kennedy as Chairman of Federal Communications Commission in 1961; and WHEREAS, Newton N.
