PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING HAZEL CREST POLICE CHIEF MITCHELL R. DAVIS III FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND NATIONAL LEADERSHIP
WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners is pleased to recognize Mitchell R. Davis III, Chief of Police for the Village of Hazel Crest, for his distinguished career in law enforcement, commitment to public service, and recent installation as the 49th National President of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE); and
WHEREAS, Chief Davis has dedicated decades to protecting and serving communities throughout the South Suburbs, beginning his law enforcement career with the Park Forest Police Department and later serving as Chief of Police for the Villages of Dixmoor and Hazel Crest; and
WHEREAS, Chief Davis has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout his career, including serving as the 73rd President of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, becoming the first black President of that organization; and
WHEREAS, Chief Davis has held numerous leadership positions with NOBLE and now serves as its National President, continuing the organization's mission of advancing justice, equity, accountability, and meaningful relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Chief Davis has been a strong advocate for community engagement, mentorship, and collaborative approaches to public safety, including efforts to address gun violence and strengthen trust between law enforcement and residents; and
WHEREAS, Chief Davis has served on statewide boards and commissions, including the Illinois Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, and has been recognized for his contributions to law enforcement and public service; and
WHEREAS, Chief Davis has worked alongside Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller on efforts to address gun violence and improve public safety throughout the South Suburbs and Cook County, reflecting a shared commitment to collaboration and community well-being; and
WHEREAS, Chief Davis' appointment to lead NOBLE on the national level is a significant achievement for the Village of Hazel Crest, the South Suburbs, Cook County, and the State of Illinois, and is a testament to his decades of service, leadership, and dedication.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, hereby honor and congratulate Chief Mitchell R. Davis III on his distinguished career in law enforcement and his installation as the 49th National President of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners commends Chief Davis for his groundbreaking leadership, including his historic service as the first Black President of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, and for his continued commitment to justice, equitable policing, community engagement, and public safety; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Mitchell R. Davis III as a symbol of the Cook County Board of Commissioners' appreciation and congratulations on this distinguished achievement.
