PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

IN LOVING MEMORY AND HONOR OF CARRON WOODS

 

WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners, together with Commissioner Tara Stamps, pauses to recognize and reflect upon the life and legacy of Carron Woods, a devoted public servant, compassionate leader, and proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and

 

WHEREAS, Carron Woods served with honor, distinction, and unwavering dedication as the Past President of the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, one of the most historic and influential chapters in the nation; and

 

WHEREAS, in her tenure as chapter president and throughout her membership, Soror Woods embodied the sorority’s founding principles of scholarship, sisterhood, service, and social action-uplifting communities and empowering generations of women; and

 

WHEREAS, among her many accomplishments, Carron Woods was instrumental in leading the effort to burn the mortgage on the Chicago Alumnae Chapter’s building-solidifying a lasting legacy of financial stewardship and organizational strength for future generations; and

 

WHEREAS, Carron’s impact extended beyond her chapter, influencing civic life across Cook County through mentorship, community engagement, and tireless advocacy for equity and educational opportunity; and

 

WHEREAS, her grace, wisdom, and leadership left a lasting legacy on the lives of those she served, inspired, and stood alongside in service; and

 

WHEREAS, her passing is deeply felt not only by her loving family and cherished sorors, but by the broader community who witnessed her dedication to making the world more just, compassionate, and inclusive; and

 

WHEREAS, Commissioner Tara Stamps-herself a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.-joins the Cook County Board in lifting up the life and legacy of Carron Woods with gratitude and respect; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by President Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby celebrate the extraordinary life of Carron Woods, Past President of the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carron Woods as an expression of Cook County’s deepest condolences and admiration for a life lived in service, sisterhood, and strength.
