PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE AND SERVICE OF RAFAEL DEANDRE WORDLAW
WHEREAS, Rafael Deandre Wordlaw, a dedicated public servant, was a beacon of selflessness. His love for his community was evident in his every action, always striving to be a hero; and
WHEREAS, Rafael is highly regarded by his colleagues, family members, and friends for his commitment, kindness, hard work, and exemplary service; and
WHEREAS, Rafael Deandre Wordlaw was born on August 10, 1992, in Chicago, IL, and was adopted by his aunt. Rafael grew up in Englewood and graduated at the top of his class from Urban Prep Academy. Rafael was also a passionate White Sox fan; and
WHEREAS, Rafael pursued higher education and studied Criminal Justice at Indiana State University, graduating on May 9, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Rafael came from a long line of police officers in his family and served with the Cook County Sheriff's Office - Department of Corrections for 4 1/2 years, where he was assigned to Division 6 of the Cook County Jail; and
WHEREAS, Officer Rafael Wordlaw was affectionately known as "Officer Friendly" and was loved by all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Rafael Deandre Wordlaw is survived by his father, who served with the Chicago Police Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, BILL LOWRY, COOK COUNTY COMMISSIONER OF THE 3rd DISTRICT, AND TONI PRECKWINKLE, PRESIDENT OF THE COOK COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONER, that we honor Rafael Deandre Wordlaw's life and legacy, recognizing his dedication to his community, his exemplary service in law enforcement, and his enduring impact on those who knew and loved him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT MEMBERS OF THE BODY, Rafael Deandre Wordlaw's memory will be forever cherished and honored by those whose lives he touched and that his dedication and service to his community will never be forgotten; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution will be presented to his family to express our deepest sympathy and highest regard for Rafael's significant contributions to his community. We share in your loss and offer our most heartfelt condolences.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED: a copy of this Resolution will be filed with the Office of Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry 3rd. District.
