PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING ST. GENEVIEVE CATHOLIC SCHOOL ON 100 YEARS
OF EXCELLENCE
WHEREAS, in 1925 St. Genevieve Catholic School was built and began its legacy on the Northwest side of Chicago in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, for the past century, St. Genevieve Catholic School has stood as an institution of dignity, grace, and academic excellence; and
WHEREAS, the school has provided a quality, Catholic education both rich in tradition and rooted in faith for children from Preschool to 8th grade; and
WHEREAS, St. Genevieve Catholic School upholds a rigorous curriculum that enables students to grow academically, clarify their values, and develop decision-making skills and a sense of responsibility for themselves and the world they will inherit as leaders; and
WHEREAS, these values are reflected by the school’s motto “Where Jesus Is The Heart Of All That Matters”; and
WHEREAS, St. Genevieve Catholic School embodies the values of diversity and inclusion, starting in the 1920s with the mixed French, German, Irish, Italian, and Polish ancestry of their student population that has since evolved into a primarily Hispanic one; and
WHEREAS, this institution has always recognized the socially and racially diverse community of Belmont Cragin; and
WHEREAS, St. Genevieve Catholic School has been committed to celebrating the cultures and traditions of its students and the Hispanic people by observing holy days such as the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and El Día De Los Muertos; and
WHEREAS, St. Genevieve Catholic School recognizes the social inequalities currently present in the education system and works to be part of the solution by providing need-based scholarships to their students to make sure all children in their community have access to a quality education; and
WHEREAS, over the course of 100 years, St. Genevieve Catholic School has produced generations of distinguished alumni who continue to make meaningful contributions in Belmont Cragin, across our city and around the world-as educators, professionals, public servants, faith leaders, and changemakers-carrying forward the school’s mission and values into the world; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle
and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, do hereby recognize and congratulate St. Genevieve Catholic School on the 100th anniversary of their founding; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the leadership of St. Genevieve Catholic School in honor of the century of academic excellence they have given to Belmont Cragin and the broader Northwest side of Chicago.
