PROPOSED RESOLUTION
BEVERLY SUSSMAN, IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman, former president of the Buffalo Grove Village Board, passed away on December 6, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman was dedicated to the Buffalo Grove community, serving for six years as a village trustee before carrying out the duties as village president for two terms; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1941; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brooklyn College; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman moved to Buffalo Grove with her husband, Martin, where she began teaching sixth grade science at Ivy Hall School and later Twin Groves Middle School; and
WHEREAS, while at Twin Groves Middle School, Beverly Sussman developed a shuttle program for the school’s Space Shuttle Club that included simulated space missions to help teach astrophysics; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman’s storied teaching career is marked by recognition of her passion including receiving the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching in 1994, and the Buffalo Grove-Long Grove Elementary District 96 Foundation for Education Excellence’s 2003 Crystal Apple; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman began her service to the Village of Buffalo Grove in the mid-1990s as a member of the disabilities commission, spurred on by the injustice of people improperly parking in handicapped parking spaces; and
WHEREAS, after 15 years on the disabilities commission, Beverly Sussman successfully ran for village trustee in 2009, and won reelection 2013; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman successfully ran for village president in 2015 and again in 2019; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure as village president, Beverly Sussman championed revitalizing streets, water pipes, and sanitary sewers; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman helped endorse the village’s first-ever gay pride parade, organized by Village of Buffalo Grove resident Molly Pinta; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman is remembered for listening to her constituency, for her humor, and above all for her dedication to doing her best for the residents of Buffalo Grove; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President of the Cook County Board and the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby honor and celebrate Beverly Sussman’s years of service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to the family of Beverly Sussman as a means of conveying our deepest condolences. end
