PROPOSED RESOLUTION
IN MEMORY OF ALBERT VÁZQUEZ
WHEREAS, almighty God in His infinite wisdom has called Albert Vázquez from our midst on May 18, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Albert Vázquez, 82, of South Chicago and Little Village, Chicago native, social worker, Latino community leader and activist, U.S. Navy Korean War veteran, and history buff, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family; and
WHEREAS, after obtaining an associate’s degree in Architecture from Wilson Jr. College in 1959, he earned a B.S. in Sociology from Roosevelt University in 1966 and Masters of Social Work from the University of Chicago in 1969; and
WHEREAS, Albert Vázquez founded and became the Executive Director of the Pilsen-Little Village Mental Health Center in 1969, which served 110,000 plus people in the Pilsen and Little Village communities during his time; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the Pilsen-Little Village Mental Health Center, he also served on many boards and committees including, the Hull House, Casa Aztlan, BASTA Drug Rehab Program, TeacherCorp Project, COSSMHO (Coalition of Hispanic Mental Health & Human Service Organizations), The Illinois Arts Council, Title XX, and ADELANTE; and
WHEREAS, Albert Vázquez beloved husband for 25 years to Martha "Nora" Miranda (nee Parrales-Castillo), supportive and loving father of Albert, Myrna, and Steven Vazquez, U. Rodrigo Miranda, and Emiliano and Erendira E. Vázquez -Parrales; and
WHEREAS, Albert Vázquez was the loving grandfather of Camilla, Delilah, Zachary, Magdalena, Gabriella Vázquez, and Diego Miranda; and
WHEREAS, Albert Vázquez was loved by many and will forever be remembered as a philosophical, caring, logical, empathetic, generous, loving, silly, humorous, down to earth, and selfless man.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County that the Board does hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family and many friends of Albert Vázquez, and joins them in sorrow at this time of loss; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and a suitable copy of same be tendered to the family of Albert Vázquez.
