HONORING THE 150^th ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF SAINT MARK'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN EVANSTON ON APRIL 25^th 2014 AND PROCLAIMING APRIL 25^th 2104 SAINT MARK'S DAY IN COOK COUNTY  

 WHEREAS, on April 25^th 2014 Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Evanston will celebrate its Sesquicentennial; and

WHEREAS, Saint Mark's Episcopal Church was founded on April 25, 1864, on the day that honors Saint Mark; and

WHEREAS, Saint Mark's Episcopal Church is located in the Historic Ridge District at 1509 Ridge Avenue in Evanston, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Saint Mark's is the oldest Episcopal Church in Evanston and-as Evanston grew-

Saint Mark's helped found additional Episcopal churches in Evanston, Saint Matthew's, Saint Luke's and Saint Augustine's; and   

WHEREAS, Saint Mark's is listed in the National Register of Historic Places; and

WHEREAS, Debra Bullock, the present rector, is the 18^th rector of Saint Mark's; and

WHEREAS, under the guidance of The Second Century Committee, "to restore what is essential and to add what is good" the Church Sanctuary was completely restored beginning in 1994 and ending in 2006; and

WHEREAS, as Saint Mark's enters its 150^th year, its motto is: "Being in Place…Growing in Faith…Living from the Center"; and

WHEREAS,  the congregation and church of Saint Mark's continues to thrive under the leadership of the Reverend Debra Bullock, Rector and the Reverend Joan Barr Smith, Deacon; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County takes great pleasure in honoring and celebrating the 150^th anniversary of the founding of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and herewith expresses its sincere gratitude for the contributions the church has made to the citizens of Cook County, Illinois; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that April 25^th 2014 be proclaimed Saint Mark's Day in Cook County; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to Saint Mark's Episcopal Church.end
