PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING MICHAEL KRELOFF’S 80TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, lifelong Cook County resident, and 14th District denizen, Michael Kreloff is celebrating his 80th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff was born on September 24, 1946, at Lincoln Park’s Grant Hospital, spending his formative years in Edgewater and Skokie; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff has long been involved in the betterment of society, becoming involved in the 1960s peace movement during his college years; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff obtained both his Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois, specializing in the field of State and Local Government Election Law; and
WHEREAS, during his college tenure Micheal Kreloff worked on campaigns for Eugene McCarthy, Harold Washington, Paul Simon, and Barack Obama to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1971; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff continued his adult years living across Cook County, including in Rogers Park, Northfield, and Northbrook; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff and his wife, Nancy, raised two wonderful daughters, Lori and Lynn; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff’s service to Cook County has been vast and impactful; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff was an Assistant States Attorney under Bernard Carey and Richard M. Daley, primarily in the Election Law Division; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff served as the Chair of the Cook County Judicial Advisory Board from 1987 to 1991; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff was Secretary of the County Board under President Phelan, where he worked to reinstate abortions at Cook County Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff worked to pass the Motor Voter Act of Illinois in 2016 with then Cook County Clerk David Orr, helping to sign up more than 1 million eligible but unregistered Illinoisans; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff is a fierce advocate for the right to vote with decades-long dedication to political activism; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff passionately served as Northfield Township Committeeperson beginning in 2002, until he retired in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kreloff retired from the practice of law at the end of December 2024, but remains know to all for his warmth, kindness, intellect, and resolve; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby celebrate Michael Kreloff on the occasion of his 80th birthday and extends heartfelt gratitude for his lifetime of service and dedication to community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy be tendered to Michael Kreloff as a symbol of congratulations on this milestone.
