PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF ASHAWN A.D. DAVIS

 

According to HIS tender mercy, God, who is infinite in HIS wisdom, has chosen to take from our midst, our beloved Ashawn. May seeds of peace find a home in your heart. May the love of Christ help mend each broken part. For when the last sunset falls, to cross that bridge when the trumpet calls.

 

As we gather to express our sympathy, our hearts are with the family of Ashawn A.D. Davis. We collectively remember someone with a tender heart and a warm spirit.

 

WHEREAS, Ashawn A.D. Davis was born on December 16, 2010, in Chicago, IL, to Teba Stewart and Ashanti Davis of Chicago, IL. As a baby, his family affectionately gave him the nickname “Shawnshawn;” and,

 

WHEREAS, Ashawn began his elementary school journey at Jenner Elementary, now known as Ogden International School. He later attended Swift Elementary School in the Edgewater community as his family sought a better life and,

 

WHEREAS, as the youngest boy in the family, Ashawn held a special place in everyone’s hearts. He was an intelligent, amazing kid who loved music and enjoyed playing video games like 2K and Fortnite; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ashawn was full of personality and could light up a room with his bright smile and dazzling white teeth. He was a talented athlete with impressive basketball, football, and tumbling skills. Competitive by nature, Ashawn never shied away from a challenge and did so with a positive attitude; and,

 

WHEREAS, even from a young age, his family recognized that “Shawnshawn” had an old soul. He would perform entire songs with passion and joy that belied his years; and,

 

WHEREAS, though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we trust the will of God who is infallible. We pray for the bereaved family that God will strengthen during this time of loss. Ashawn was a bright light -full of energy, love, and an unstoppable spirit. Whether he was excelling on the field, sharing his love of music, or filling the home with laughter, Shawnshawn brought so much joy to everyone around him. He was a loving child, a dedicated athlete, and a musical soul who touched the hearts of all who knew him; and,

 

WHEREAS, on August 12, 2024, Ashawn departed this life and was reunited in heaven with his uncle, Gregory Stewart, leaving who mourn his passing to rely on the comforting words found in Isaiah 35:10, “Earth has no sorrow that Heven cannot heal;” and,

 

WHEREAS, Ashawn deeply loved his family and his presence will be deeply missed. We find solace in the word of Jesus who said, “I will not fail thee nor forsake thee; and,

 

WHEREAS, he leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Teba Stewart; two sisters, Antinya Williams and Ashiya Davis; and his grandparents, Sherron Brown and Gregory Stewart. He is also survived by a loving group of aunts and uncles: Tamika, Teonita, Shawn Sr, Tremayne, Tarhonda, Malikah, Zahra, and Shaneka. Ashawn’s memory will also live on through his many cousins: Michael, Azaria, Adonis, Kenyon, Shawnte, Teshawna, Nataly, Tamia, Brendon, Kenyon Jr, Jayden, Shawn Jr, Lyric and Dwan, along with a host of extended family and friends. He will be especially missed by his two best friends, Niko and Morocco.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, does hereby celebrate the life of Ashawn A.D. Davis and offer condolences to his family; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, a copy of this Resolution be tendered to the family as a token of the esteem held by the President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the Cook County Board of Commissioners.
