PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING PASTOR JAMES C. BOYD ON HIS 25TH PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, Pastor James C. Boyd was called to ministry 46 years ago, establishing a strong foundation of faith and a lifelong commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Boyd was born in Arkansas into a close-knit family that emphasized faith, church involvement, and community service, values that have guided his life and ministry; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Boyd later relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where his ministry journey continued following his ordination in 2001, serving as Assistant Minister at First Unity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. E. J. Jones; and
WHEREAS, upon the retirement of Reverend Dr. Jones, Pastor Boyd was elected as the third Pastor of the historic First Unity Missionary Baptist Church, which has faithfully served its community for nearly a century; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Boyd has expanded the church’s mission through impactful community outreach initiatives and has led participation in Baptist conventions nationwide, encouraging individuals to grow in Christ; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Boyd has demonstrated unwavering dedication to strengthening the spiritual and civic fabric of his community, engaging with leaders across Chicago, Cook County, and the State of Illinois to promote sound leadership and public service; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Boyd serves as President of the Baptist Pastors Conference of Chicago and Vicinity, where he provides mentorship and leadership development, guiding pastors and ministers in faithful and effective service; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership, both the church and the Pastors Conference have expanded programs that serve those in need, including weekly prayer broadcasts, food pantry support, youth development initiatives, and annual “stay in school” events; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Boyd continues to champion initiatives that strengthen both spiritual growth and community impact, and is widely recognized for his inspiring sermons, compassionate leadership, and steadfast commitment to service; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Boyd’s holistic ministry-addressing spiritual, educational, and material needs-has made him a trusted and respected advocate for individuals and families seeking hope and support; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, April 26, 2026, Pastor James C. Boyd celebrated his 25th Pastoral Anniversary at First Unity Missionary Baptist Church.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize and commemorate the 25th Pastoral Anniversary of Pastor James C. Boyd; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Honorable Body extends its sincere congratulations and gratitude to Pastor Boyd for his many years of faithful service to his church and the broader community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be entered into the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and that a suitable copy be presented to Pastor James C. Boyd as a token of respect and esteem.
