PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE HERSEY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM IHSA CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP WIN
WHEREAS, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, the Hersey High School Huskies boys soccer team, led by Coach Michael Rusniak, won the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 3A boys state soccer championship; and
WHEREAS, the Huskies 2024 boys soccer team IHSA Class 3A win made history for both Hersey High School as well as the boys soccer program; and
WHEREAS, the Huskies played a watertight defense for the entirety of the 80-minute regular match, leading to two 10-minute overtimes; and
WHEREAS, the Huskies battled for duration of the 100-minute final game despite a steady rain falling on the outdoors Hoffman Estates High School’s Graber Stadium; and
WHEREAS, in the light of the scoreless match after 100 minutes of play, the Huskies bested Lane Tech 4-2 in a series of penalty kicks thus winning with match with a 1-0 score; and
WHEREAS, Huskies goalkeeper Adrian Smakowski was instrumental, stopping two of Lane Tech’s penalty kicks and then scoring the final penalty kick that sealed the Huskies’ win; and
WHEREAS, the Huskies spent ample practice time preparing for a game in the event it came down to penalty kicks, so they were ready for the ultimate matchup; and
WHEREAS, Coach Rusniak is immeasurably proud of his athletes, stating, “Words cannot describe how I feel right now about this result, and the guys on this team who have made all of us associated with Hersey very proud of what they accomplished”; and
WHEREAS, in addition to their championship win, the Huskies set new school records for the most shutouts and wins in a season; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President of the Cook County Board and the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby celebrate and congratulate the Hersey High School Huskies boys soccer team on their historic first-time IHSA Class 3A boys state soccer championship; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to the Hersey High School Huskies boys soccer team as a means of conveying our congratulations on this historic win.end
