HONORING LARRY HOLMES, JR. FOR HIS UNWAVERING DEDICATION TO THE ROBBINS COMMUNITY

 

WHEREAS, Larry Holmes, Jr. stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, driven by the legacy of his father and the urgent need for positive outlets for the youth in Robbins, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Born and raised in this vibrant yet challenged community, Larry embodies the values of hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to giving back; and

 

WHEREAS, What began as a simple pastime-cutting hair out of necessity-transformed Larry into a gifted barber, whose talent quickly earned him the respect and admiration of friends and neighbors throughout Robbins; and

 

WHEREAS, As a teenager, Larry-affectionately known as “Laro”-witnessed the heartbreaking impact of drugs and gangs dragging down his beloved community. Rather than stand idly by, he chose to rise, igniting a spark of change; and

 

WHEREAS, Driven by a profound desire to uplift the men in his community, Larry launched "Grill and Chill," a heartfelt Father’s Day celebration filled with food, fellowship, and, of course, haircuts-fostering connections and strengthening bonds; and

 

WHEREAS, Laro’s vision for a thriving community led him to create cherished traditions, such as a dazzling 4th of July fireworks show that has illuminated the skies for six years, and a spirited, police-escorted Back to School Bike Hike, delivering school supplies and joy to countless children; and

 

WHEREAS, With the warmth of his heart, Laro and his friends gathered over 100 bikes, bringing smiles and spreading Christmas cheer to those in need; and

 

WHEREAS, Recognizing the pressing necessity for essentials, Larry organized a shoe drive, successfully collecting and distributing nearly 300 pairs of shoes to children, ensuring they stepped into school with pride and confidence; and

 

WHEREAS, In an extraordinary act of compassion, Larry orchestrated a blessing for a young girl tragically orphaned, ensuring that her life was filled with love and support far beyond what anyone could have anticipated; and

 

WHEREAS, Larry Holmes, Jr. does not seek accolades or recognition; his actions are a divine calling, fueled by a simple yet profound mission: to uplift his community, create opportunities for the youth, and forge connections among all; and

 

WHEREAS, Larry humbly professes, “I’m just a kid from Robbins, IL with a barber dream, and I want to see us all win,” a testament to his boundless hope and unwavering spirit;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners hereby recognize and honor Larry Holmes, Jr. for his extraordinary service to the residents of Robbins, Illinois, and his exemplary contributions to the community;

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be entered into the permanent record of the proceedings of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, and that a suitable copy of this Resolution be presented to Larry Holmes, Jr. as a heartfelt token of our esteem and gratitude.end
