PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING MARITZA OCASIO FOR RECEIVING THE LEADERSHIP AWARD FROM THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF PUERTO RICAN WOMEN

 

WHEREAS, on March 22, 2025, Maritza Ocasio will be recognized by The National Conference of Puerto Rican Women - Northern Illinois at the organization’s Women’s History Month brunch; and

 

WHEREAS, the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women is a non-partisan organization that promotes the full participation of Puerto Rican and other Hispanic women in their economic, social and political life in the United States and Puerto Rico; and

 

WHEREAS, Maritza is a member of the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women - Northern Illinois Chapter and served as the organization's secretary; and

 

WHEREAS, Maritza works diligently at Rincon Family Services as a Recovery Support Specialist in the Living Room Program, assisting individuals who are experiencing Mental Health Challenges and substance use disorders; and

 

WHEREAS, she also serves on the CEO Advisory Committee of Rincon Family Services; and

 

WHEREAS, Maritza saw her communities' deeper need for these services and chose to become certified with the State of Illinois as a Recovery Support Specialist to be able to further serve her community; and

 

WHEREAS, Maritza Ocasio is a survivor of domestic violence and mother of two boys, who now advocates for others in similar situations, and shares her survival techniques; and

 

WHEREAS, Maritza is a devoted member of her community and actively serves as an instructor and does trainings on Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention, Harm Reduction, and Wellness Recovery Action Planning in the 8ths District of Cook County;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Cook County Board of Commissioners, do hereby congratulate Martiza Ocasio for her major accomplishment in receiving the Leadership Award from the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Maritza Ocasio.
