Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION ORLANDO RIVAS, IN MEMORIAM WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas lived a life of dedicated service to the community he loved; and WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas began his service in 1995 as an employee of the Cook County Juvenile Probation Department (JPD); and WHEREAS, during his tenure as a Juvenile Probation Department Officer, he devoted his career to supporting and guiding court-involved youth toward positive outcomes; and WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas was a beloved member of JPD known for his commitment to meaningfully impacting the lives of court-involved youth; and WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas served the residents of Cook County with distinction for 30 years, retiring from JPD in October 2025; and WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas left behind a legacy of service, professionalism, and commitment to the youth and families of Cook County; and WHEREAS, following his retirement, Orlando Rivas continued his service to the community as a security officer at Buffalo Grove High School; and WHEREA...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

ORLANDO RIVAS, IN MEMORIAM

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas lived a life of dedicated service to the community he loved; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas began his service in 1995 as an employee of the Cook County Juvenile Probation Department (JPD); and

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure as a Juvenile Probation Department Officer, he devoted his career to supporting and guiding court-involved youth toward positive outcomes; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas was a beloved member of JPD known for his commitment to meaningfully impacting the lives of court-involved youth; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas served the residents of Cook County with distinction for 30 years, retiring from JPD in October 2025; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas left behind a legacy of service, professionalism, and commitment to the youth and families of Cook County; and

 

WHEREAS, following his retirement, Orlando Rivas continued his service to the community as a security officer at Buffalo Grove High School; and

 

WHEREAS, during a tragic accident on April 21, involving a car striking a pole, Orlando Rivas took heroic action that left him critically injured and he later succumbed to his injuries; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas is lauded for his quick reaction that saved the lives of students as he pushed them out of harm’s way; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas will be remembered by students and teachers as always going above and beyond for family, friends and strangers alike, and was a trusted adult for the students in attendance at Buffalo Grove High School, ensuring students felt valued and safe; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas is survived by his beloved wife, Erin, and four wonderful children; and

 

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas’ act of selfless bravery will not soon be forgotten; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Orlando Rivas and joins them in this time of sorrow; and  

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy, and does hereby honor the life, service, and heroic actions of Orlando Rivas; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and suitable copies be tendered to the family of Orlando Rivas, that his memory may be so honored and ever cherished.
