Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING HOFFMAN ESTATES MAYOR WILLIAM D. MCLEOD'S 45 YEARS OF SERVICE WHEREAS, William (Bill) D. McLeod was first elected as Mayor of Hoffman Estates in April 2001, after serving as Acting Mayor from September 2000 and Village Trustee since 1980; and WHEREAS, during his tenure, Mayor McLeod dedicated himself to the growth and sustainability of Hoffman Estates' economic development and business retention, housing, infrastructure, and transportation; and WHEREAS, he has also prioritized intergovernmental relationships and is active on local, regional, and state committees to ensure residents and business owners receive the best representation; and WHEREAS, as part of this work, in 2018 and 2019, Mayor McLeod worked with the Board and Village staff to secure an approximately $200 million redevelopment plan convert the former AT&T campus into a thriving "metroburb" with an exciting, walkable downtown-style centerpiece for the village, complete with 1.2 million ...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RECOGNIZING HOFFMAN ESTATES MAYOR WILLIAM D. MCLEOD’S 45 YEARS OF SERVICE

 

WHEREAS, William (Bill) D. McLeod was first elected as Mayor of Hoffman Estates in April 2001, after serving as Acting Mayor from September 2000 and Village Trustee since 1980; and

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure, Mayor McLeod dedicated himself to the growth and sustainability of Hoffman Estates’ economic development and business retention, housing, infrastructure, and transportation; and

 

WHEREAS, he has also prioritized intergovernmental relationships and is active on local, regional, and state committees to ensure residents and business owners receive the best representation; and

 

WHEREAS, as part of this work, in 2018 and 2019, Mayor McLeod worked with the Board and Village staff to secure an approximately $200 million redevelopment plan convert the former AT&T campus into a thriving “metroburb” with an exciting, walkable downtown-style centerpiece for the village, complete with 1.2 million square feet of office space, 60,000 square feet of conference facilities, storage and amenities, and 60,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod also successfully advocated the creation of the Economic Development Committee that was instrumental in the creation of the Hoffman Estates Historical Museum; and

 

WHEREAS, he additionally helped spearhead and guide the development of the highly visible Barrington Interchange and continues to work on the further redevelopment of the Village Green as part of the Hoffman Estates entertainment district; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod’s area-wide service includes serving as a board member of the Schaumburg Regional Air Park, a member of the Transportation Steering Committee and Communications Committee with the United States Conference of Mayors, and a Director of the Joint Action Water Agency; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod additionally represents the Village at the Northwest Municipal Conference where he previously served as President and as the Chair of its Economic Development Committee and Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee and Chair of the Transportation Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, he was also appointed as a board member to Cook County Suburban PACE in August of 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod also represented Hoffman Estates for 20 years on the Regional Cable Group and is a former director of the Greater Woodfield Convention and Visitors Bureau; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is a long-standing supporter of the environment and is one of 1,000 U.S. Mayors to sign The U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod serves on Leadership committees for WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger) and the Children’s Advocacy Center; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod, and the Village Board members, make a point to engage with their constituents and have notably visited every block party to listen to neighborhood concerns and issues; and

 

WHEREAS, before his time as Mayor, Mayor McLeod was a small business owner for 35 years, served as a Legislative Assistant to an Illinois State Representative for 4 years, was a board member of the Greater Chicagoland Parents of the Hearing Impaired, and was President of the Castleford/Hearthstone Homeowners Association; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod and his wife, Joane, enjoy spending time reading, walking, learning about history, and sitting on the front porch with their combined eight children and twelve grandchildren; and

 

WHEREAS, this year marks Mayor McLeod’s 45th year of service and dedication to Hoffman Estates; and

 

WHEREAS, thanks to his dedication to the village, Mayor McLeod has shaped Hoffman Estates into a community that is vibrant, resilient, and growing;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby congratulate Mayor William Mcleod on his 45 years of service to Hoffman Estates, and wish him well in all his ongoing and future endeavors; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and suitable copies be tendered to Mayor William Mcleod is recognition of his many years of service to his community.
