PROPOSED RESOLUTION

HONORING LOYOLA HEALTH’S PEDIATRIC MOBILE HEALTH UNIT ON THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY

WHEREAS, since its inception in 1998, Loyola's Pediatric Mobile Health Unit has played a critical role in offering a wide range of medical services directly to communities in need; and

WHEREAS, Loyola Health functions as a fully equipped pediatric doctor’s office on wheels, and has been a beacon of hope and health, providing routine physical exams, immunizations, health screenings and educational sessions to children and young adults up to age 21; and

WHEREAS, this year, 2024, marks a quarter-century of providing crucial health care services to over 157,000 children in underserved communities throughout the Chicago area; and

WHEREAS, each day Loyola Health encounters struggling families and helps them access health care and resources. In this time, Loyola Health has touched the lives of people from all over the world, welcoming them to communities throughout Cook County; and

WHEREAS, at the height of last year's measles outbreak, Loyola Health Pediatric Mobile Unit provided critical support at migrant shelters, which were identified as areas of high measles risk; and

WHEREAS, by offering free vaccinations directly at these shelters, the unit helped prevent the spread of disease and protected our most vulnerable communities; and

WHEREAS, this anniversary also honors the hard work of Loyola Medicine's staff, the generosity of its donors, and the strong community partnership that has supported the Pediatric Mobile Health Unit; and

WHEREAS, Loyola Health’s goal is to keep communities healthy by providing resources to people regardless of their status. This program helps to ensure that children in the communities Loyola Health serves are able to have a clinic in their neighborhood, which will in turn make their school admissions an easier process; and

WHEREAS, Loyola Medicine continues its pledge to visit 300 sites annually, emphasizing the importance of children's health and well-being; and

WHEREAS, Loyola Medicine, a member of Trinity Health, is a nationally ranked academic, quaternary care system based in Chicago's western suburbs; and

WHEREAS, Trinity Health is one of the largest not-for-profit, Catholic health care systems in the nation. It is a family of 121,000 colleagues and nearly 36,500 physicians and clinicians caring for diverse communities across 27 states; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Loyola Health’s Pediatric Mobile Health Unit has been a crucial partner in fighting for health equity throughout the Cook County suburbs; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners honors the contributions of Loyola Health’s Pediatric Mobile Health Unit to the well-being and health of the people of Cook County;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, do hereby honor Loyola Health’s Pediatric Mobile Health Unit in September of 2024.
