Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE RESURRECTION PROJECT (TRP) ON THEIR 35TH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, The Resurrection Project (TRP) is located at 1818 S. Paulina Street, Chicago, IL 60608 serving primarily the neighborhoods of Pilsen, Little Village, Back of the Yards, and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, TRP was founded in 1990, emerging from a grassroots effort in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood, where a group of six local parishes came together in response to the neglect, violence, and economic disinvestment plaguing Pilsen in the late 1980's and early 1990's; and WHEREAS, these churches pooled $5,000 each, creating seed capital totaling $30,000 to launch the organization focused on community-driven change; and WHEREAS, TRP's initial mission was to empower residents to advocate for cleaner streets, safer neighborhoods, affordable housing, and access to quality education and resources; and WHEREAS, TRP began as a grassroots advocacy group, organizing locals to reclaim and rebuild their ...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING THE RESURRECTION PROJECT (TRP) ON THEIR 35TH ANNIVERSARY

 

WHEREAS, The Resurrection Project (TRP) is located at 1818 S. Paulina Street, Chicago, IL 60608 serving primarily the neighborhoods of Pilsen, Little Village, Back of the Yards, and surrounding areas; and

 

WHEREAS, TRP was founded in 1990, emerging from a grassroots effort in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood, where a group of six local parishes came together in response to the neglect, violence, and economic disinvestment plaguing Pilsen in the late 1980's and early 1990's; and

 

WHEREAS, these churches pooled $5,000 each, creating seed capital totaling $30,000 to launch the organization focused on community-driven change; and

 

WHEREAS, TRP's initial mission was to empower residents to advocate for cleaner streets, safer neighborhoods, affordable housing, and access to quality education and resources; and

 

WHEREAS, TRP began as a grassroots advocacy group, organizing locals to reclaim and rebuild their community; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1991, TRP purchased its first property, the St. Vitus complex and Zócalo plaza at 18th and Paulina, marking a shift into the real estate market housing; and

 

WHEREAS, by 1999, TRP had taken the lead in Pilsen's redevelopment as part of LISC Chicago’s New Communities Program, bringing together a coalition to develop a multi-year neighborhood revitalization plan. and

 

WHEREAS, TRP has grown to include affordable housing projects, community centers, financial services, legal support, and advocacy, benefiting not only Pilsen, but also Little Village, Back of the Yards, and the wider Chicago area communities; and

 

WHEREAS, TRP's founding model, built on community leadership, parish support, and a mission-driven approach, laid the groundwork for decades of social impact; and

 

WHEREAS, the initial $30,000 investment sparked a transformation that eventually channeled hundreds of millions in community investment and established TRP as a statewide social impact organization. and

 

WHEREAS, TRP's main areas of focus include affordable housing development, financial wellness and asset building, immigration legal services, community organizing and civic engagement, and health equity Wellness; and

 

WHEREAS, Awards received by TRP include the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Outstanding Non-Profit Neighborhood Real Estate Project, Advancing Cities Award from JPMorgan Chase, Chicago Community Trust Outstanding Community Strategy of the Year, MacArthur Foundation Community Capital Grant, CDFI certification, Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards, Excellence in Community Service Award from MALDEF, and Lincoln Laureate; and

 

WHEREAS, TRP has invested more than $600 million in community development, creating over 900 affordable housing units and supporting thousands of families through immigration, housing, and financial services, reaching more than 40,000 residents with direct services and outreach annually.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Cook County Board President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby congratulate The Resurrection Project (TRP) on its 35th anniversary and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, this text be spread upon the proceedings of this Honorable Body and that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to The Resurrection Project (TRP) in honor of its outstanding work.end
