PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RECOGNIZING KATIE MARCINIAK AND ASIYAH ALI FROM THE INNER-CITY MUSLIM ACTION NETWORK (IMAN) FOR THEIR CONTINUED DEDICATION TO THE COMMUNITIES OF COOK COUNTY IN HONOR OF WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

 

WHEREAS, March is Women's History Month in which we not only highlight the contributions of women in history but also in contemporary society; and

 

WHEREAS, Katie Marciniak and Asiyah Ali, coming from different schools with unique backgrounds, have portrayed that the ability to provide positive impact is not hindered by age; and

 

WHEREAS, Katie Marciniak and Asiyah Ali are evidence that youth are our future and the impact they have provided to their communities and peers parallels some of the great work that youth have provided in the 7th District and throughout Cook County; and

 

WHEREAS, Katie Marciniak is a junior at Gage Park High School and a longtime resident of Chicago Lawn; and

 

WHEREAS, Katie Marciniak has maintained a strong commitment to her local community, as evidenced by her involvement in BuildOn in Gage Park, a student organization committed to increasing student retention rates and increasing student literacy, as well as her work with the Inner-City Muslim Action Network; and

 

WHEREAS, Katie Marciniak has played a considerable amount of leadership roles within her role as the youth leader for the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), tackling issues ranging from food justice to criminal justice reform; and

 

WHEREAS, Asiyah Ali is a freshman at Lindblom Math & Science Academy and a resident of Chicago Lawn; and

 

WHEREAS, Asiyah Ali has been a longtime member of the Youth Council at the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) and has emerged as a thoughtful and passionate young leader; and

 

WHEREAS, Asiyah Ali has played a critical role in IMAN's instrumental Corner Store Campaign and has traveled to Springfield countless times to advocate for youth summer employment opportunities; and

 

WHEREAS, Asiyah Ali has a strong commitment to not only her education, but the education of her peers, and currently serves as a member of the award-winning Lindblom Math Team. 

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize and commemorate the noble work the both Ms. Katie Marciniak and Ms. Asiyah Ali have contributed to their local communities as they strive to make education a priority for themselves and their peers.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this text be spread upon the proceedings of this Honorable Body and that a suitable copy of this Resolution be presented Katie Marciniak and Asiyah Ali.
