Summary: The Department of Transportation and Highways respectfully requests the approval of the proposed Contract between the County and Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd., Rosemont, Illinois.
The purpose of this project is threefold: (1) To identify a preferred alignment to improve and designate as a section of the Des Plaines River Trail (DPRT) between 26th Street and the Illinois Prairie Path, (2) complete a preliminary engineering (Phase I) study with input from adjacent municipalities, local agencies and the public, as well as (3) identify one or more local agency partners to assume maintenance responsibility for the proposed improvements.
Proposed improvements for this section of the DPRT may include shared use path construction, roadway resurfacing or partial roadway reconstruction with new pavement markings to accommodate on street bike lanes, potential trail rehabilitation within the Forest Preserves of Cook County (FPCC), and improvements to bike crossings at signalized intersections and other locations along the identified preferred alignment.
This contract is awarded pursuant to a publicly advertised Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in accordance with the Cook County Procurement Code. Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. was selected based on established evaluation criteria.
