PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RESOLUTION HONORING JACK SOLOMON, VISIONARY FOUNDER OF DEVELOPING OUR YOUTH - A CATALYST FOR EMPOWERING FUTURE GENERATIONS

 

WHEREAS, Jack Solomon has demonstrated unwavering dedication as the founder of Developing Our Youth, an organization that harnesses the empowering power of sports, academics, cultural exposure, and community engagement to uplift underserved youth; and

 

WHEREAS, mental health challenges among youth and their families are a growing concern, with unaddressed mental health issues leading to adverse outcomes such as violence, trauma, and limited opportunities-making programs like Developing Our Youth more vital than ever in providing support, hope, and positive pathways; and

 

WHEREAS, through his visionary leadership, Developing Our Youth has awarded thousands of scholarships over the past eight years, opening doors to higher education and life-changing opportunities for countless young people; and

 

WHEREAS, the organization’s innovative programs foster resilience, discipline, and a positive outlook by integrating sports, recreation, arts, and cultural activities-tools that help young people envision and build brighter futures; and

 

WHEREAS, recognizing that education and career success are rooted not only in opportunities but also in mental health and emotional well-being, Developing Our Youth actively collaborates with colleges, career centers, and mental health organizations to provide holistic support; and

 

WHEREAS, the organization’s partnerships with local entities-including youth groups, clergy, unions, businesses, and community organizations-serve as a vital safety net, addressing issues such as violence, trauma, and mental health challenges faced by our youth; and

 

WHEREAS, the active involvement of parents and teachers-working in partnership with the organization-enhances the mental health and overall well-being of participating youth, creating a nurturing environment essential for their growth and success; and

 

WHEREAS, these combined efforts empower our youth to overcome adversity, cultivate leadership, and develop a sense of community, ultimately fostering safer, stronger neighborhoods; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that President Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby honor Jack Solomon for his dedication to the youth in his community and commend his unwavering commitment to transforming lives through Developing Our Youth; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution, presented by Fifth District Commissioner Dr. Kisha E. McCaskill, be recorded in the permanent archives of Cook County, and that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jack Solomon of Developing Our Youth.
