PROPOSED RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION HONORING JOSEPH C. SERPICO
WHEREAS, the Italian American Labor Council of Greater Chicago will honor Joseph C. Serpico as the 2015 Man of the Year on October 3, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Serpico was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1031, since his employment in 1965, at the Rauland Division of Zenith Electronics Corporation; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Serpico served our country as a member of the Armed Forces in 1968 and 1969 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant with eighteen months of service; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Serpico earned Labor and Electronics Certificates from Triton College, Central Texas College, Cornell University, and the University of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, as a member of Local 1031, I.B.E.W., Joseph Serpico held the position of Department Steward, Chief Steward, Secretary of the Executive Board, Business Representative, and from 1989-2005 President; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Serpico represented I.B.E.W. Local 1031 as a delegate to the International Convention, the I.B.E.W. State Conference, the Illinois State AFL-CIO, and the Chicago Federation of Labor; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Serpico joined Amalgamated Bank of Chicago in November 2005 as Vice President, Relationship Manager; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Serpico was an active member of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, Jobs for Justice, the Hispanic American Labor Council, and the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement. In 1998 he was elected President of the Italian American Labor Council where he served for four terms and is now a President Emeritus; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Serpico is married to Carol, his wife of 45 years, and has two children, Joe and Tricia, and six grandchildren, Nicholas, Gianna, Marisa, Michael, Andrew, and Joey.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate Joseph C. Serpico on receiving the Italian American Labor Council 2015 Man of the Year Award; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Joseph C. Serpico.
