PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING LEWIS BOND ON BEING SELECTED IN THE 2026 NFL DRAFT BY THE HOUSTON TEXANS
WHEREAS, Lewis Bond, a proud Chicago native, began his football journey with the Blue Island Untouchables, where he played youth football from pee-wee through junior high, developing a lifelong love for the game and laying the foundation for his future success; and
WHEREAS, Lewis attended St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Illinois, where he distinguished himself as a standout receiver and safety on the freshman football team before earning a varsity role as a sophomore; and
WHEREAS, for his final two years of high school, Lewis attended Kenwood Academy in Chicago, Illinois, where he became a dynamic all-purpose offensive weapon, primarily lining up at running back, accumulating more than 1,000 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior, helping lead Kenwood Academy to a conference championship in 2019 and an appearance in the Illinois state playoffs; and
WHEREAS, Lewis’ senior football season was postponed until the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he was unable to participate as he enrolled early in college to begin preparing for the next chapter of his academic and athletic career; and
WHEREAS, Lewis represented the strength of Illinois high school football, earning recognition as a highly regarded recruit and receiving scholarship opportunities from prestigious academic and athletic institutions including Boston College, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Harvard, Princeton, and Dartmouth; and
WHEREAS, following graduation, Lewis committed to Boston College in 2021, beginning a collegiate career marked by hard work, perseverance, leadership, and steady growth as a student-athlete; and
WHEREAS, after utilizing a redshirt season and developing within the program, Lewis became a dependable playmaker for the Boston College Eagles, recording 52 receptions for 646 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2023 season; and
WHEREAS, in the 2024 season, Lewis continued to excel, totaling 67 receptions for 689 yards and three touchdowns while earning Honorable Mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference recognition; and
WHEREAS, in his final collegiate season in 2025, Lewis served as a team captain and delivered a historic campaign, recording 88 receptions for 993 yards, earning Second Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors, and becoming Boston College’s all-time leader in receptions, cementing his place among the institution’s football greats; and
WHEREAS, Lewis balanced excellence on the field with achievement in the classroom, graduating from Boston College with a degree in Marketing while also pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Administration, demonstrating his commitment to leadership and success beyond football; and
WHEREAS, Lewis’ achievements exemplify dedication, resilience, discipline, and excellence, serving as an inspiration to young athletes throughout Cook County and the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, on April 25, 2026, Lewis Bond was selected by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 204th overall pick, achieving the dream of playing professional football while proudly carrying his Chicago and Illinois roots to the national stage; and
WHEREAS, this Honorable Body wishes to honor Lewis Bond and congratulate him on reaching the pinnacle of his sport;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby congratulate and honor Lewis Bond on being selected by the Houston Texans in the 2026 NFL Draft and commend him for representing Cook County and the State of Illinois with excellence, determination, and pride; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Lewis Bond as an expression of this Honorable Body’s admiration, respect, and best wishes for continued success throughout his professional football career.
