PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING ADDISON OSTA SMITH FOR HER IMPRESSIVE WIN ON “MASTERCHEF JUNIOR”
WHEREAS, Addison Osta Smith was one of twenty-four kids competing on the fourth season of the nationally broadcast show, “MasterChef Junior;” and
WHEREAS, week after week, the nine-year-old Addison, who attends Roosevelt Middle School in River Forest, served sophisticated entrees that impressed the judges and slayed her competition on “MasterChef Junior;” and
WHEREAS, in a season full of home runs, Addison also made history by being the first female and the youngest winner on the show; and
WHEREAS, the young chef with a penchant for backwards baseball caps and softball metaphors prepared a three-course, pan-Asian dinner to beat nine-year-old Avery Kyle for the cooking competition’s Season 4 title and $100,000; and
WHEREAS, the young chefs had a mere ten minutes to shop in the pantry for ingredients and ninety minutes to cook their meals. Addison edged out Avery’s Southern menu in every course despite losing time and focus after cutting her finger; and
WHEREAS, Addison’s appetizer of sake-marinated shrimp with a seaweed, sea bean, sour plum, and puffed rice salad earned high praise from judge Gordon Ramsay, who said, “I feel like I’m in this incredible Japanese restaurant with a very modern California twist;” and
WHEREAS, Addison’s entrée of miso-glazed black cod was likened to a “spoonful of diamonds,” and judge Graham Elliot offered her a job at his eponymous West Loop restaurant; and
WHEREAS, as young as age six or seven, Addison realized she enjoyed cooking and baking and would do so when she came home from school; and
WHEREAS, at home, inside her own River Forest kitchen, Addison loves to make homemade pesto pasta with Parmesan cheese and four-cheese ravioli; and
WHEREAS, when she grows up, Addison would love to be a chef and to appear as a judge on “MasterChef” or “MasterChef Junior” but is also interested in being a singer or an astronaut.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate Addison Osta Smith for her impressive win on “MasterChef Junior.”
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Addison as she celebrates this exciting accomplishment.
