Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING EDDIE KING JR. ON BEING DRAFTED BY THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM WHEREAS, Eddie King Jr. from Lynwood, Illinois was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the recent Major League Baseball draft as pick 473 overall; and WHEREAS, Eddie started playing baseball in the Lynwood Little League at the age of 6 and his talent was quickly evident; and WHEREAS, Eddie was the youngest player at age 11 on the 2014 Jackie Robinson West Little League Championship team in the Little League World Series, and would meet President Barrack Obama and Michelle Obama as a result of the team's great success; and WHEREAS, Eddie played on the White Sox Amateur City Elite Team for 12-17-year-olds, playing in the Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente Tournaments where he was named MVP for both events; and WHEREAS, Eddie attended Marion Catholic High School, where he played all four years on the Varsity Baseball team and was named Captain during the 2020-2021 season...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING EDDIE KING JR. ON BEING DRAFTED BY THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM

 

WHEREAS, Eddie King Jr. from Lynwood, Illinois was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the recent Major League Baseball draft as pick 473 overall; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie started playing baseball in the Lynwood Little League at the age of 6 and his talent was quickly evident; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie was the youngest player at age 11 on the 2014 Jackie Robinson West Little League Championship team in the Little League World Series, and would meet President Barrack Obama and Michelle Obama as a result of the team’s great success; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie played on the White Sox Amateur City Elite Team for 12-17-year-olds, playing in the Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente Tournaments where he was named MVP for both events; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie attended Marion Catholic High School, where he played all four years on the Varsity Baseball team and was named Captain during the 2020-2021 season and made the Illinois All State Team; and

 

WHEREAS, after graduating High School with a 3.7 GPA, Eddie attended the University of Louisville, where he starred in the outfield and last year was one of college baseball’s top power and clutch hitters, making 55 appearances and 50 starts tallying 17 home runs, 19 doubles, a triple, 21 walks and 63 RBI with an OPS of 1.185, which was 3rd in the ACC and 16th in slugging percentage in all of Division 1 Baseball; and  

 

WHEREAS, Eddie’s outstanding year garnered him Second-Team All-ACC honors and he was named MVP of the Nashville Regional tournament and made the College World Series All-Tournament team; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie finished his career at the University of Louisville with 154 games played, a career .323 batting average, 36 home runs, 37 doubles, 3 triples, 45 walks, 23 stolen bases and 148 RBI; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie received several accolades while attending the University of Louisville including the University of Louisville Fan Favorite, and Male Adidas High Performance Award to name a few; and

 

WHEREAS, just as he was at Marion Catholic High School, Eddie was a true scholar athlete, graduating from the University of Louisville with a degree in Sports Administration and earning a 3.65 GPA;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby extend our deepest congratulations to Eddie King Jr. on being selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Major League Baseball draft and on his successful academic career and wish him the best of luck as he pursues his baseball career; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Eddie King Jr., as a token of our esteem and recognition of his outstanding achievements.
