Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is a Black Greek Letter Organization founded on January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings and Fannie Pettie Watts; and WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded from a vision that would directly affect positive change, chart a course of action for the 1920s and beyond, raise people's consciousness, encourage the highest standards of scholastic achievement, and foster a greater sense of unity among its members; and WHEREAS, Zeta was the first National Pan-Hellenic Council organization to centralize its operations in a national headquarters, first to charter a chapter in Africa, first to form auxiliary groups, and first to be constitutionally bound to a fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated; and WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta was incorporated in the Stat...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY

 

WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is a Black Greek Letter Organization founded on January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings and Fannie Pettie Watts; and 

 

WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded from a vision that would directly affect positive change, chart a course of action for the 1920s and beyond, raise people’s consciousness, encourage the highest standards of scholastic achievement, and foster a greater sense of unity among its members; and

 

WHEREAS,  Zeta was the first National Pan-Hellenic Council organization to centralize its operations in a national headquarters, first to charter a chapter in Africa, first to form auxiliary groups, and first to be constitutionally bound to a fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated; and

 

WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta was incorporated in the State of Illinois in 1939. Currently, the Sisterhood of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has over 100,000 members around the world. Illinois has been the proud home or initiation place of many prominent members of our organization; and

 

WHEREAS, the current Presidents of the Chapters are listed as follows - Zeta Tau Zeta Chapter (Chicago) - Dana Drummer; Tau Psi Zeta Chapter (Alsip, IL) - Shannon Blackburn; Tau Alpha Zeta Chapter (Richton Park, IL) - Dr. Shelly Davis Jones; Xi Mu Zeta Chapter (Markham, IL) - Kimberley M. Titsworth; Psi Psi Zeta Chapter (Chicago) - Charissa Isom;  Zeta Zeta (Dolton, IL) - Tiffany S. Clemmons; Omega Pi Zeta (Evanston) - Joanna Goodson; Tau Xi Zeta (Forest Park) - Barbara Kees; Alpha Alpha Sigma Zeta (Chicago Metropolitan Undergraduate) - Anna Willis Jordan; Mu Phi (Loyola University) - London Troi; and

 

WHEREAS, the women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated have been guided by their core values of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood for the past 105 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated continues to advance its mission through its national programmatic thrust, The Extraordinary Power of S.H.E (Social Justice, Health Justice, and Economic Justice), which embodies the commitment to enhancing the well-being of women, families, and communities through impactful initiatives; and

 

WHEREAS, Zeta’s national and local programs include the endowment of its National Educational Foundation community outreach services and the support of multiple affiliate organizations. Its chapters and auxiliaries have given numerous hours of voluntary service to educate the public, assist youth, provide scholarships, support organized charities, and promote social and civic change legislation; and

 

WHEREAS, for the past 52 years, ZETA Tau Zeta Chapter has performed thousands of hours in community service throughout Cook County in partnership with programs such as the March of Dimes, Ronald McDonald House, Salvation Army and Susan G. Komen; and

 

WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. mentors young women from ages 4 - 18 through the Zeta Youth Auxiliaries known as the Pearlettes, Amicettes and Archonettes and they have a long-standing partnerships such as the March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, do hereby recognize Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated’s ongoing commitment and dedication to service, leadership, and scholarship within our communities and beyond.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official records of this Honorable Body, and a copy of the same be tendered to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
