PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING PALATINE SUPERVISOR ANDY-JOHN G. KALKOUNOS AS RECIPIENT OF ILLINOIS 2025 SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, Palatine Township Supervisor Andy-John G. Kalkounos was selected as the 2025 Supervisor of the Year by the Illinois Township Association of General Assistance Caseworkers; and
WHEREAS, Palatine Township has long been honored for their work including the 2024 Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award, the 2023 Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) Awards , the 2021 Innovative Township Program of the Year, and the 2016 Caseworker of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Kalkounos was first elected as a Trustee of Palatine Township in 2017; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Kalkounos was elected as Township Supervisor in 2021, a post he has served in since; and
WHEREAS, Palatine Township serves residents across eight municipalities including Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Inverness, Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Barrington, South Barrington, and Schaumburg; and
WHEREAS, under Supervisor Kalkounos’ tutelage Palatine Township has modernized operations, strengthened financial policies, deepened communication with residents, and increased digital accessibility; and
WHEREAS, as a part of his undertaking of accessibility, Supervisor Kalkounos partnered with Commissioner Scott Britton and the Cook County Clerk’s Office to create a seamless process for residents to order copies of vital records close to home, including certificates of birth, marriage, divorce, and death. This sets a precedent for potential future partnerships across the County and set the groundwork for expanded access to critical personal records; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Kalkounos expanded Township services including the food pantry, emergency assistances, outreach, transportation, and essential resources to better serve residents; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Kalkounos has cultivated strong relationships with community groups including Veterans services, senior groups, elected officials, and community stakeholders to ensure accessible support for residents; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Kalkounos attended Marion Jordan Elementary, Plum Grove Junior High, Elgin Academy H.S., and Fremd H.S. After which he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Butler University’s Lacy School of Business; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Kalkounos and his wife, Katey, are first-generation Greek Americans raising their two children in the same community where Kalkounos grew up; and
WHEREAS, in addition to being an active father and a leader in Palatine Township, Supervisor Kalkounos is dedicated member of the community he serves, spending over a decade as a board member with Meet Chicago Northwest Convention & Visitors Bureau, leveraging partnerships for the Harper College Foundation Board, expanding the Palatine Township Foundation Board to assist families in need, and supporting commercial and industrial growth as a part of the Schaumburg Business Development Commission; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President of the Cook County Board and the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate Supervisor Kalkounos for his well-deserved 2025 Illinois Supervisor of the Year Award as a result of his tireless efforts on behalf of the residents of Palatine Township; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to Supervisor Kalkounos as a means of conveying our congratulations.
