PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION HONORING DR. PIERRE JOHNSON, MD FOR EXCELLENCE IN BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH AND WOMEN’S SURGICAL INNOVATION
WHEREAS, Pierre Johnson, MD is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist serving patients at Loretto Hospital and has become widely recognized for his compassionate, patient-centered, and innovative approach to women’s healthcare; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson, affectionately known as the “Fibroid Slayer,” has dedicated his career to advancing minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and improving healthcare outcomes for women suffering from uterine fibroids and other complex reproductive health conditions; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has emerged as a leading advocate for equitable healthcare treatment, particularly for Black women who continue to face disproportionate barriers, disparities, and adverse outcomes in maternal healthcare and gynecologic treatment across the United States; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson recently performed a groundbreaking surgery on a pregnant patient suffering from a massive 27-pound fibroid, successfully removing the fibroid while preserving both the patient’s pregnancy and fertility after multiple medical providers advised termination of the pregnancy and hysterectomy as the only viable option; and
WHEREAS, this extraordinary medical achievement demonstrated not only exceptional surgical expertise and innovation, but also a profound commitment to listening to patients, respecting women’s bodily autonomy, and ensuring that Black women receive comprehensive, culturally competent, and compassionate care; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson’s work has inspired hope for countless women and families navigating difficult healthcare journeys and has elevated the broader public conversation surrounding Black maternal health, reproductive justice, fibroid awareness, and equitable access to quality healthcare; and
WHEREAS, through his leadership, advocacy, and commitment to preserving both life and dignity, Dr. Johnson continues to make an indelible impact on the residents of Cook County and communities throughout the State of Illinois;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby honor and celebrate Dr. Pierre Johnson, MD for his outstanding contributions to Black maternal health, women’s surgical innovation, and equitable healthcare advocacy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Honorable Body commends Dr. Johnson for his unwavering commitment to advancing compassionate medical care, preserving fertility and motherhood, and ensuring that women-particularly Black women-are seen, heard, and treated with dignity within the healthcare system; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Pierre Johnson, MD as a symbol of our gratitude, admiration, and highest esteem.
