PROPOSED RESOLUTION
THE RETIREMENT OF MIKE REID
WHEREAS, the Honorable Mike Reid has served the Skokie Park District Board for 19 years and formerly served as a School Board Member for Skokie School District 68 for 8 years; and
WHEREAS, Mike served on the Skokie School Board from 1997 to 2005 and was elected to the Skokie Park District Board in 2005, 2011, 2017, and 2023, serving as President of the Board eleven times, and Vice President four times; and
WHEREAS, Mike’s achievements as Skokie Park District Commissioner include helping oversee major projects and programming changes including the creation of Skokie’s Backlot Bash, the renovation of The Exploratorium, Skatium Ice Arena, Weber Leisure Center, and its Fitness First Health Club, and numerous park and playground renovations across the Village of Skokie; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, the Skokie Park District was recognized as an Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency three times; and
WHEREAS, Mike earned Master Board Member status from the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD). He then served as an IAPD Board Trustee, helping to provide research and education to advance hundreds of Illinois park and recreation agencies. He also served on IAPD’s Honors and Resolutions Committee, the Research Advisory Committee, and the Joint Legislative Committee; and
WHEREAS, except for three recent meetings, in his two decades on the board Mike never missed a monthly board meeting, budget meeting, or public hearing. Mike has attended nearly every major event the park district has held, including serving as emcee for the Skokie Festival of Cultures, the Skokie Fireworks Festival, and Skokie’s Backlot Bash; and
WHEREAS, Mike has been a dear mentor, friend, and colleague to countless people throughout Skokie, Cook County, and Illinois. His smile, spirit of generosity, and distinctive laugh will always be remembered; and
WHEREAS, we thank Mike’s wife Diana, children Brad, Becky, and Josh, and grandchildren for supporting and sharing Mike with all of us through the years; and
WHEREAS, Mike’s profound love of the Skokie Park District and his decades of service and leadership leave a profound legacy for all Skokie residents and future generations; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County that the Board recognizes and celebrates the exemplary service and invaluable contributions of the Honorable Mike Reid during his service on the Skokie Park District Board; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to the family of the Honorable Mike Reid, that his service may be so honored.
