PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF TAURINO BRITO
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom has called Taurino Brito from our midst on September 25, 2019 at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, Taurino Brito, was born in Guerrero, México on August 11, 1929; and
WHEREAS, Taurino Brito, came to this country as a beneficiary of the Bracero Program with the goal of providing for his family; and
WHEREAS Taurino Brito, a longtime resident of Pilsen neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest side, was a kind presence in the lives of many residents throughout their childhood and adulthood; and
WHEREAS, for more than 25 years, despite climate or season, Taurino Brito walked the streets of Pilsen selling churros and popsicles; and
WHEREAS, Taurino Brito, was recognized for being a remarkably giving person. In one instance, he donated a plot of land he owned in México for a medical clinic; and
WHEREAS, Taurino Brito, worked tirelessly to ensure that his children and grandchildren had the financial support to succeed in postsecondary institutions, which including DePaul University, DeVry University, Dominican University, Georgetown University, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and Harvard University; and
WHEREAS, Taurino Brito was survived by his beloved wife, Maria Soleto Brito, his nine (9) children, twenty-six (26) grandchildren, and fourteen (14) great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Taurino Brito’s legacy will continue to be felt for generations to come. He leaves not only a family that grieves him but a community that was impacted by his contributions and convictions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family and many friends of Taurino Brito, and joins them in sorrow at this time of loss; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be tendered to the family of Taurino Brito so that his memory may be honored and ever cherished.
