PROPOSED RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MARY CAROL VANECKO
WHEREAS, The Cook County Board of Commissioners, with profound reverence and deep admiration, celebrates the extraordinary life of Mary Carol Vanecko, a cherished matriarch, devoted community servant, and a beacon of joy whose luminous spirit graced all who knew her; and
WHEREAS, Mary Carol Vanecko, a proud daughter of Chicago, was called home to God on February 28, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving behind an indelible legacy of love, laughter, and boundless generosity; and
WHEREAS, Mary was the beloved wife of the late Robert M. Vanecko, M.D., with whom she shared 59 years of unwavering devotion, a love story marked by steadfast companionship, profound respect, and a deep commitment to family; and
WHEREAS, Mary was a devoted and adoring mother to Robert G. (Jamie) Vanecko, Mark G. (Kimberly) Vanecko, R.J. Vanecko, and Mary Clare (Oscar) Hickman; each a testament to her nurturing spirit, guiding wisdom, and unbreakable love; and
WHEREAS, Mary took immeasurable pride in her role as Grandma MC, showering her grandchildren; Bobby, Mary Kate, Danny, Meg, Ellie, Luke, Henry, Mary Alana, and Eleanor with an abundance of affection, laughter, and the warmest embraces; and
WHEREAS, Mary was deeply rooted in the legacy of public service, the daughter of the esteemed Richard J. Daley and Eleanor (Guilfoyle) Daley, and a cherished sister to Richard M. Daley, Michael (Nancy) Daley, John P. (Mary Lou) Daley, and William M. (Bernie) Daley. She honored her family’s storied contributions to the City of Chicago with pride, humility, and an unwavering commitment to community; and
WHEREAS, Mary pursued her education with distinction, graduating from Nativity of Our Lord Grammar School, St. Xavier High School, and St. Mary’s College, before devoting herself to the noble calling of teaching, shaping young minds with patience and grace in the Wilmette public schools; and
WHEREAS, Mary Carol was a woman of radiant warmth, ceaseless energy, and a zest for life that was nothing short of infectious. She found joy in the simple pleasures such as; golf, tennis, Grand Beach summers, shopping, parties, and the sacred tradition of Sunday dinners weaving together a tapestry of cherished moments for all who loved her; and
WHEREAS, Mary’s legendary pancakes, witty emojis, and rapid-fire telephone calls became the stuff of family lore, her presence a source of boundless delight, and her love an everlasting gift; and
WHEREAS, A faithful parishioner of Queen of All Saints and a pillar of charitable service, Mary dedicated herself to her faith and community, serving as the longest-standing member of the Misericordia Women’s Board, embodying selflessness, kindness, and an unyielding commitment to those in need; and
WHEREAS, though Mary departed from this earthly life, her spirit endures in the hearts of those she loved, in the countless lives she touched, and in the echoes of her joyous laughter forever resounding in the halls of cherished memory;
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, BILL LOWRY, COOK COUNTY COMMISSIONER OF THE 3rd DISTRICT, AND TONI PRECKWINKLE, PRESIDENT OF THE COOK COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONER, does hereby honor the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Mary Carol Vanecko, extending heartfelt condolences to her beloved family and all who mourn her passing; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be presented to the family of Mary Carol Vanecko as a token of our deepest esteem, admiration, and gratitude of the Office of Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry 3rd District.
