He dedicated his life to the pursuit of social justice, equality, and compassion; and WHEREAS, John excelled academically and athletically at DeMatha Catholic High School and Prince George's Community College, fostering his natural talents and leadership skills; and WHEREAS in the mid-1990s, Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. recognized John's exceptional abilities through John's career at the Citizenship Education Fund. RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF JOHN C. MITCHELL
(MARCH 14, 1967 - JUNE 14, 2024)

WHEREAS, John C. Mitchell was born in Lanham, Maryland, on March 14, 1967, to Joseph and Camilla Mitchell. He dedicated his life to the pursuit of social justice, equality, and compassion; and

WHEREAS, John excelled academically and athletically at DeMatha Catholic High School and Prince George's Community College, fostering his natural talents and leadership skills; and

WHEREAS in the mid-1990s, Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. recognized John's exceptional abilities through John's career at the Citizenship Education Fund. Reverend Jackson's recognition of John's talents and abilities would lead to a profound partnership and a path towards greater influence and impact, inspiring us all; and

WHEREAS, John served as Assistant to the National Field Director for Rainbow PUSH, Gary Flowers, contributing significantly to direct-action campaigns championing social, economic, and political fairness and participating in historic voting rights marches and commemorative events; and

WHEREAS, John's meticulous attention to detail and unwavering dedication led to his promotion as Scheduler for Reverend Jackson, ensuring seamless coordination of the Reverend's schedule; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, John's exceptional leadership, undeniable contributions and work ethic in 2004, John's exceptional leadership, undeniable contributions and work ethic culminated in his appointment as Chief of Staff to Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, becoming the Reverend's right-hand man, handling numerous responsibilities, and earning the moniker as Reverend Jackson's "Go-to-Guy,"; and
