WHEREAS, Morton College first opened its doors on September 15, 1924 with 11 teachers and 76 students under the direction of its first College President Harry Victor Church, who made Morton "a peoples' college with terminal courses for better citizenship as well as preparation for university"; and

WHEREAS, Morton College is the second oldest community college in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Morton College has evolved from its humble beginnings on the third floor at Morton East High School to its current campus in Cicero, Illinois, allowing the college to have served over a quarter of a million students across Berwyn, Cicero, Forest View, Lyons, McCook and Stickney; and

WHEREAS, Morton College is committed to its mission of enhancing the quality of life of their diverse community through exemplary teaching and learning opportunities, community service, and life-long learning; and
