PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING DR. BETTY J. ALLEN-GREEN FOR HER LEADERSHIP COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION AS A COMMUNITY STRATEGIST, FACILITATOR AND EDUCATOR
WHEREAS, Dr. Betty J. Allen-Green is a Grassroots Community Strategist, Facilitator, and a Chicago Public Schools Educator for over 35 year; and
WHEREAS, she began her career as a teacher, worked as a counselor, assistant principal and eighteen years as Principal of Theodore Herzl Elementary School. As principal, Dr. Green and her staff built a cohesive unit of academic pride in the students and cultivated constructive parental involvement; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Green achieved many successes while facing Herculean demands of a community she loves. Under her leadership, Dr. Allen-Green developed and nurtured a program of academic excellence at Herzl Elementary School. Additionally, Herzl was notably recognized for achieving over a 96% student and teachers' attendance rate which contributed to continuous academic excellence and improvements; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Green's dedication and innovation encouraged partnerships with Columbia College and DePaul University's Center for Urban Education. These partnerships resulted in opportunities for students to immerse themselves in fine arts like never. The relationships with Columbia College and DePaul University's Center for Urban Education also provided excellent professional development and in-class coaching for teachers. This ingenious collaboration was underwritten by J.P. Morgan Chase Foundation, Steans Family foundation, Lawndale Christian Health Center and the Carol Kaplan Foundation.; and
WHEREAS, after retiring from Herzl Elementary School, Dr. Green worked for CPS Office of Principal Preparation and Development where she mentored new principals. She simultaneously founded the Lawndale AMACHI Mentoring Program (LAMP). LAMP is a program providing mentors to children and youth between the ages of four-eighteen in the North Lawndale Community.
