Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF ACCESS LIVING'S CAMBIANDO VIDAS WHEREAS, Cambiando Vidas is a community organizing group within Access Living Organization that serves immigrants with disabilities in the Chicagoland area; and WHEREAS, Access Living is a service and advocacy center in Chicago for disabled people run and led by disabled people where they challenge stereotypes, protect civil rights, and champion social reforms; and WHEREAS, Cambiando Vidas goal is to provide a critical space for immigrants with disabilities to come together, organize, and affect change; and WHEREAS, recently, Cambiando Vidas has focused intensely on legislative work in Illinois that has helped push for policies such as the Keep Illinois Families Together Act (KIFTA), which ensures there is no collaboration between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in public facilities such as public schools, libraries, hospitals, and other institutions; and WHEREAS, Cambiando Vidas also ...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF ACCESS LIVING’S CAMBIANDO VIDAS

 

WHEREAS, Cambiando Vidas is a community organizing group within Access Living Organization that serves immigrants with disabilities in the Chicagoland area; and

 

WHEREAS, Access Living is a service and advocacy center in Chicago for disabled people run and led by disabled people where they challenge stereotypes, protect civil rights, and champion social reforms; and

 

WHEREAS, Cambiando Vidas goal is to provide a critical space for immigrants with disabilities to come together, organize, and affect change; and

 

WHEREAS, recently, Cambiando Vidas has focused intensely on legislative work in Illinois that has helped push for policies such as the Keep Illinois Families Together Act (KIFTA), which ensures there is no collaboration between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in public facilities such as public schools, libraries, hospitals, and other institutions; and

 

WHEREAS, Cambiando Vidas also continuous to advocate for meaningful legislation around health, economic and equity for the thousands of residents that they serve; and

 

WHEREAS, Cambiando Vidas hosts bilingual meetings on the 2, 3 and 4 Tuesday of every month which provide interpreter services in Spanish; and

 

WHEREAS, on Thursday, July 31, 2024, Cambiando Vidas will celebrate their 15th Anniversary with their theme of “Quinceañera”. This celebration symbolizes the accomplishment and growth of their organization and commitment to their mission.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Cook County Board President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby congratulate Access Living Cambiando Vidas for their 15th Anniversary; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, this text be spread upon the proceedings of this Honorable Body and that a suitable copy of this resolution is presented to Access Living Cambiando Vidas for their outstanding achievements and work.
