Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION JOLIET AREA/SOUTH SUBURBAN ALUMNAE CHAPTER DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. FOR THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, on the evening of January 12, 1974 Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded; and WHEREAS, the chapter has taken on various programs and projects such as voter registration, Thanksgiving basket giveaways, and various successful fundraisers; and WHEREAS, significant contributions have been made to a number of organizations through their efforts. Specifically, the YMCA building fund, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the YMCA Youth and Government Organization, and the United Negro College Fund. The chapter also offers support to work with unwed mothers offering health options during their Health Fairs. Under their non-profit arm, JASSAC Charitable Foundation, Inc raised over $150,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors in South Suburban Cook County and the Joliet area. JOLIET AREA/SOUTH SUBURBAN ALUMNAE CHAPTER DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. FOR THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSARY

WHEREAS, on the evening of January 12, 1974 Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded; and

WHEREAS, the chapter has taken on various programs and projects such as voter registration, Thanksgiving basket giveaways, and various successful fundraisers; and

WHEREAS, significant contributions have been made to a number of organizations through their efforts. Specifically, the YMCA building fund, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the YMCA Youth and Government Organization, and the United Negro College Fund. The chapter also offers support to work with unwed mothers offering health options during their Health Fairs. Under their non-profit arm, JASSAC Charitable Foundation, Inc raised over $150,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors in South Suburban Cook County and the Joliet area. In addition, distributes over 500 toys to local children through their Breakfast with Santa program; and

WHEREAS, JASSAC provides support to two Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) sites, St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Park Forest, IL, and New Faith Baptist Church in Matteson, IL. In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, the chapter helped in the construction of several houses in the South suburbs; and

WHEREAS, Mentoring programs have also been implemented and continuing serving at-risk girls through the Delta Academy and Delta GEMS programs and boys through E.M.B.O.D.I. (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence); and

WHEREAS, on Friday, January 12th JASSAC celebrated their 50th Anniversary where their contributions to the south suburbs of the Chicagoland area and their impact in these communities was commemorated.
