Summary:  The GASC represents a collaborative partnership between three core levels of government-the State of Illinois, Cook County, and the City of Chicago to support community-based approaches to building safe communities. GASC works closely with a broad range of diverse stakeholders to sustain violence prevention and community-based violence intervention investments to meet the ongoing need in communities and connect those at-risk to resources. GASC also works to streamline grant funding, unify data collection, and increase capacity-building support for local community-based organizations.

As GASC expands its strategic scope and deepens regional investments across community violence intervention (CVI) ecosystems, transitioning from an informal multi-agency coalition into a formalized, institutionalized governance structure is critical. Codifying the governance will help ensure multi-jurisdictional collaboration remains structurally resilient, transparent, and sustainable across leadership and administrative transitions.
