Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE REVEREND JAMES BASS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 98TH BIRTHDAY WHEREAS, Reverend James Bass was born on May 7th, 1920 in Doberville, Mississippi, and; WHEREAS, Reverend Bass began school at age six, and had a very early calling into the ministry, and; WHEREAS, Reverend Bass was known around the town as "The Boy Preacher", and; WHEREAS, Reverend Bass preached his first sermon in September 1938 and it was titled "Preaching as the Fires Burns," and; WHEREAS, Reverend Bass was ordained as a minister at Mt. Laton in 1941 while still working on his family's farm, and; WHEREAS, on December 7th 1941 Reverend Bass was drafted into the United States Army, and he served three years in World War II, and; WHEREAS, Reverend Bass was promoted to Corporal in 1944 and was sent to the South Pacific, India, and New Guinea, and there he became the chaplain on the field and conducted worship services, and; WHEREAS, on June 7th 1945 Reverend Bass was discharged and retu...

HONORING THE REVEREND JAMES BASS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 98TH BIRTHDAY

WHEREAS, Reverend James Bass was born on May 7th, 1920 in Doberville, Mississippi, and;

WHEREAS, Reverend Bass began school at age six, and had a very early calling into the ministry, and;

WHEREAS, Reverend Bass was known around the town as "The Boy Preacher", and;

WHEREAS, Reverend Bass preached his first sermon in September 1938 and it was titled "Preaching as the Fires Burns," and;

WHEREAS, Reverend Bass was ordained as a minister at Mt. Laton in 1941 while still working on his family's farm, and;

WHEREAS, on December 7th 1941 Reverend Bass was drafted into the United States Army, and he served three years in World War II, and;

WHEREAS, Reverend Bass was promoted to Corporal in 1944 and was sent to the South Pacific, India, and New Guinea, and there he became the chaplain on the field and conducted worship services, and;

WHEREAS, on June 7th 1945 Reverend Bass was discharged and returned to his family in Mississippi and continued his ministerial career, and;

WHERERAS, Reverend Bass was first called to Pastor in 1950 by the Mt. Israel Baptist Church in Drew, Mississippi, and;

WHEREAS, in December of 1955 Reverend Bass was invited to Detroit, Michigan, to conduct a revival for Rev. J.P. Montgomery at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. After the revival, he stopped through Chicago to visit and ended up preaching his first sermon at the Open Door Baptist Church, and;

WHEREAS, in 1956 Reverend Bass founded Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago with 19 chartered members, and;

WHEREAS, In 1967 Reverend Bass was united in holy matrimony to Helyn Maxcine Julius, and they had two children, James Vincent Elliot Bass and Vikkeda Elisa Jacque Bass, and;

WHEREAS, On October 5th 1980 Reverend Bass and the Mt. Olive family purchased its present building at 5729 W. Chicago Ave, and;

WHEREAS, Reverend Bass was the pastor of Mt. Olive for 45 years, and;
