PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING VALERIE SALMONS FOR HER YEARS OF SERVICE AS VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE VILLAGE OF BARTLETT
WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons, Village Administrator for the village of Bartlett is retiring after thirty-five years of service; and
WHEREAS, prior to becoming Village Administrator, she started her career in Deerfield, and served as assistant manager in Decatur; and
WHEREAS, in 1982, Valerie Salmons became the first full time administrator in Bartlett's 125 year history; and
WHEREAS, her arrival corresponded with the community's impressive growth, navigating the housing boom, issuing some 900 building permits a year, and ramping up the corresponding services defined her early years in Bartlett, the village increased its population from 13,254 to more than 42,000 and its size from eight to almost 16 square miles; and
WHEREAS, she was the first woman appointed to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board in 1990, she was later reappointed by six Illinois governors and was the first woman elected to serve as its chairman; and
WHEREAS, locally, Salmons set a high bar for the Bartlett Police Department, consistently performing above expectations, the department was awarded its first Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies designation in 1997 and has been re-accredited six times since; and
WHEREAS, placing a top priority on infrastructure, Salmons introduced a 5-year Capital Improvements Program in the Village, this valuable financial planning tool helps ensure the timely completion of street, water, sewer and other projects while keeping costs down.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby thank Valerie Salmons for her outstanding career for the public good and extends its best wishes to her in her well-deserved retirement; and
