PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE SKOKIE VALLEY CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Daughters of the American Revolution organization was found in 1890 with the mission of promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism; and
WHEREAS, in the present-day, Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, volunteer women's service organization comprised of 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the world; and
WHEREAS, Daughters of the American Revolution participate in a wide variety of historic preservation projects to preserve history for future generations; and
WHEREAS, Daughters of the American Revolution are passionate about educating America's youth and support a variety of different programs, scholarships, contests, and awards; and
WEHEREAS, Daughters of the American Revolution work to enhance patriotic appreciation through volunteerism and education; and
WHEREAS, the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1925, just 35 years after the National Society was established; and
WHEREAS, the home of Fannie Ames Cope in Kenilworth served as a gathering location for thirteen North Shore women as the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was born; and
WHEREAS, in 1933, the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution played in integral role in supporting Skokie Valley Civilian Conservation Corps Camp as they worked to build the Skokie Lagoons State Park by collecting books, playing cards, and games for the Conservation Corps members; and
WHEREAS, Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has supported projects from the National Society, including the Bell Tower at Valley Forge, the Independence Hall Restora...
