PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MARCH AS NATIONAL DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH IN COOK COUNTY

 

WHEREAS, over six million Americans live with developmental disabilities, each facing unique challenges that demand our compassion and understanding; and

 

WHEREAS, the CDC estimates that one in six children aged 3 to 17 are affected, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and support; and

 

WHEREAS, developmental disabilities arise from various factors and can impact individuals across all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, reminding us of our shared responsibility to foster inclusivity; and

 

WHEREAS, these disabilities can shape daily lives and futures, but having a disability does not diminish a person’s worth or potential for a vibrant, fulfilling life; and

 

WHEREAS, National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is a vital opportunity to educate our communities and advocate for the full participation of individuals with developmental disabilities in all aspects of life-education, employment, and civic engagement;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that March shall serve as a month of intentional focus on creating a world where every individual has the chance to thrive; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners hereby declare March 2025 as Developmental Disability Awareness Month in Cook County; and

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be recorded in the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, a pledge to inclusivity and support for all.
