PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION HONORING OFFICER MICHAEL JOHNSON FOR EXEMPLARY BRAVERY, SERVICE, AND SACRIFICE IN THE LINE OF DUTY
WHEREAS, Officer Michael Johnson of the Lynwood Police Department demonstrated extraordinary bravery and commitment in the line of duty, particularly during a recent critical incident in Ford Heights; and
WHEREAS, on August 22, 2024, Officer Johnson responded to a high-risk situation involving gunfire at a homicide scene, showing remarkable courage and decisiveness under intense and dangerous circumstances; and
WHEREAS, while providing crucial assistance to Cook County deputies, Officer Johnson was shot during the confrontation, an act of bravery that underscores his dedication and willingness to place his own safety at risk to protect others; and
WHEREAS, despite sustaining injuries, Officer Johnson continued to exhibit resilience and professionalism, contributing significantly to the resolution of the situation and the safety of all involved; and
WHEREAS, Officer Johnson was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart from the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum for his heroism and the injuries sustained in the line of duty, an honor that reflects his sacrifice and unwavering commitment to public service; and
WHEREAS, Officer Johnson's actions reflect exceptional dedication to duty, and his bravery during this high-stress event has earned him recognition and commendation from both his peers and the public; and
WHEREAS, such acts of heroism and service underscore the vital role of law enforcement officers in maintaining public safety and exemplify the highest standards of conduct and commitment within the profession; and
WHEREAS, it is both fitting and appropriate to formally recognize and honor Officer Michael Johnson for his exemplary courage, outstanding service, and significant sacrifice in protecting the community;
