PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE RESURRECTION PROJECT (TRP) ON THEIR 35TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, The Resurrection Project (TRP) is located at 1818 S. Paulina Street, Chicago, IL 60608 serving primarily the neighborhoods of Pilsen, Little Village, Back of the Yards, and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, TRP was founded in 1990, emerging from a grassroots effort in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood, where a group of six local parishes came together in response to the neglect, violence, and economic disinvestment plaguing Pilsen in the late 1980's and early 1990's; and
WHEREAS, these churches pooled $5,000 each, creating seed capital totaling $30,000 to launch the organization focused on community-driven change; and
WHEREAS, TRP's initial mission was to empower residents to advocate for cleaner streets, safer neighborhoods, affordable housing, and access to quality education and resources; and
WHEREAS, TRP began as a grassroots advocacy group, organizing locals to reclaim and rebuild their community; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, TRP purchased its first property, the St.?Vitus complex and Z?calo plaza at 18th and Paulina, marking a shift into the real estate market housing; and
WHEREAS, by 1999, TRP had taken the lead in Pilsen's redevelopment as part of LISC Chicago's New Communities Program, bringing together a coalition to develop a multi-year neighborhood revitalization plan. and
WHEREAS, TRP has grown to include affordable housing projects, community centers, financial services, legal support, and advocacy, benefiting not only Pilsen, but also Little Village, Back of the Yards, and the wider Chicago area communities; and
WHEREAS, TRP's founding model, built on community leadership, parish support, and a mission-driven approach, laid the groundwork for decades of social impact; and
