PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE MAINE TOWNSHIP HAWKS ON WINNING THE 2016 8A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, the Maine South Hawks won the 2016 8A State Football Championship on November 26, 2016, at the University of Illinois’ Memorial Stadium, beating the Loyola Ramblers 27-17; and
WHEREAS, Maine South football has a long history of football greatness and was in the finals six times from 2003-2010, winning championships in 2008, 2009, and 2010; and
WHEREAS, this was the first time the Maine South Hawks had advanced to the finals since 2010; and
WHEREAS, this win marks Maine South Hawks Coach David Inserra’s fourth state title; and
WHEREAS, Maine South’s opponent in the 8A division Illinois state championship game, Loyola Academy of Wilmette, had been enjoying a thirty-game winning streak; and
WHEREAS, the Loyola Ramblers beat the Hawks 44-43 early in the season; and
WHEREAS, in a season full of ups and downs, the Hawks were considered underdogs against #1-ranked Loyola, and the Hawks were seeded 26 of the 32 teams in the 8A playoff field; and
WHEREAS, the Hawks’ team motto for 2016 has been “true grit,” reflecting the team’s willingness to work hard and never give up; and
WHEREAS, the City of Park Ridge honored the team with a community parade held on December 3, 2016.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate the Maine South Hawks football team for its impressive 8A championship win.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Maine South Hawks football team as it celebrates this exciting accomplishment.
