PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING DR. L?ZARO L?PEZ AS HE CONCLUDES HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE WITH HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 214 AND RECOGNIZING HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO PUBLIC EDUCATION, COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS, AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
WHEREAS, Dr. L?zaro L?pez concludes his distinguished service with High School District 214 after a career that has shaped public education, college and career readiness, and opportunity for thousands of students in northwest Cook County and across Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Dr. L?pez's life and career reflect the promise of public education, community college access, military service, and hard work, having served in the United States Army, begun his postsecondary journey at College of DuPage, and gone on to earn degrees from Illinois State University, Roosevelt University, and Aurora University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. L?pez began his District 214 career as an English teacher at John Hersey High School and later served the district as Principal of Wheeling High School, Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, Interim Superintendent, and Executive Director of the District 214 Education Foundation and Career Pathways; and
WHEREAS, at Wheeling High School, Dr. L?pez helped launch District 214's first career pathways in manufacturing and health care, expanded dual-credit opportunities, supported STEM programming, strengthened business and community partnerships, and helped students connect classroom learning to meaningful futures; and
WHEREAS, Dr. L?pez was recognized for his innovation and leadership as the recipient of the 2010 Dr. Elizabeth Ennis Innovative Educator Award, the 2012 Illinois Principals Association North Cook Region High School Principal of the Year, and the 2013 Illinois Principals Association High School Principal of the Year; and
