Summary: On January 16, 2025, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocated $244,162,000 to Cook County for the purpose of assisting in long-term recovery from major disasters that occurred in 2023 and 2024.
Transmitted herewith is a request for the approval to accept a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant of Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds in response to disasters occurring in 2023 and 2024, appropriated by the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2025 Public Law 118-158. The purpose of the CDBG-DR grant program is to assist targeted areas that have been affected by a natural disaster (in this case, severe storms and flooding during the periods of June 29, 2023 - July 2, 2023; September 17, 2023 - September 18, 2023, and July 13, 2024 - July 16, 2024). The program will provide necessary expenses related to disaster relief, addressing unmet needs, long-term recovery, restoration of infrastructure and housing, and flood mitigation and resilience planning in the most impacted and distressed areas resulting from a major disaster declared pursuant to the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2025 (the "Act.)
