PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING ARISE CHICAGO'S 35 YEARS OF ORGANIZING TO ADVANCE WORKER RIGHTS
WHEREAS, Arise Chicago celebrates its 35th Anniversary, marking three and a half decades of advancing workers' rights, dignity, and economic justice since its founding in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Arise Chicago was founded by a diverse group of faith leaders committed to addressing systemic poverty and economic injustice in the Chicagoland area, grounded in the belief that all workers deserve dignity and respect in their workplaces; and
WHEREAS, as increasing numbers of workers in Chicago faced exploitative labor conditions, wage theft, discrimination, harassment, and unsafe workplaces, Arise Chicago expanded its mission and programs to provide education, advocacy, organizing support, and direct assistance to working people across the region; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, Arise Chicago developed the first Illinois-specific Workers' Rights Manual written in accessible language and published in Spanish, Polish, and English, creating a resource that has since served as a national model and continues to be distributed free of charge to workers and communities; and
WHEREAS, following the publication of the Workers' Rights Manual, Arise Chicago established a Worker Center that became a trusted and vital space for worker education, leadership development, advocacy, and community organizing; and
WHEREAS, through its tireless advocacy and partnership with working people, Arise Chicago has helped thousands of workers recover more than $10 million in stolen wages and compensation and has supported workers in raising their wages by more than $6 million; and
WHEREAS, over the last three and half decades, Arise Chicago has emerged as a pioneering organization and a leader in the faith-labor movement, partnering with religious institutions, labor unions, community organizations, and academic institutions to advocate for systemic policy reforms.
