PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JAPANESE AMERICAN CITIZENS LEAGUE CHICAGO CHAPTER
WHEREAS, on December 6, 1945, the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Chicago Chapter was formed to support the civil rights and livelihoods of people of Japanese ancestry who moved to Chicago after the closing of the WWII incarceration camps; and
WHEREAS, the JACL is a national organization whose ongoing mission is to secure and maintain the civil rights of Japanese Americans and all others who are victimized by injustice and bigotry. The leaders and members of the JACL also work to promote cultural, educational and social values and preserve the heritage and legacy of the Japanese American community; and
WHEREAS, JACL Chicago Chapter has continuously worked hard of the last 80 years to build community, educate and advocate for Japanese Americans; and
WHEREAS, their leadership has helped form new leaders that have been elected to office, including the Commissioner Josina Morita who is the first Japanese American on the Cook County Board of Commissioner; and
WHEREAS, to commemorate 80 years of service, the JACL is hosting an anniversary party on December 6, 2025 at New Furama Chinatown Restaurant; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners, Cook County Commissioner Josina Morita, does hereby congratulate the Japanese American Citizens League on the 80th anniversary and commend the dedication to supporting the Japanese American community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Japanese American Citizens League as a token of respect, gratitude, and encouragement for the continued work in the years to come.
