Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING CHUTE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT SOFIA CHAVEZ CROWNED SPANISH SPELLING BEE WINNER WHEREAS, Sofia Chavez, Chute Middle School eighth grader, was crowned the Spanish District 65 Spelling Bee Champion at the third annual district-wide Spanish Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 17th, 2025 at Haven Middle School in Evanston; and WHEREAS, Sofia won in the 9th round, becoming champion after correctly spelling "colecci?n" (collection); and WHEREAS, the District competition featured winners from school-wide spelling bees. 4th-8th grade students from across the district who won their classroom competitions and then a school-wide spelling bee composed of classroom winners. Schools then sent one or two winners to the district-wide competition; and WHEREAS, Words at this year's Spanish bee, included r?stico (rustic), gamba (prawn), oir (to hear), pensar (to think), and carb?n (carbon); and WHEREAS, Sofia will ultimately showcase her skills in the prestigious Spa...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING CHUTE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT SOFIA CHAVEZ CROWNED SPANISH SPELLING BEE WINNER

 

WHEREAS, Sofia Chavez, Chute Middle School eighth grader, was crowned the Spanish District 65 Spelling Bee Champion at the third annual district-wide Spanish Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 17th, 2025 at Haven Middle School in Evanston; and

 

WHEREAS, Sofia won in the 9th round, becoming champion after correctly spelling “colección” (collection); and

 

WHEREAS, the District competition featured winners from school-wide spelling bees. 4th-8th grade students from across the district who won their classroom competitions and then a school-wide spelling bee composed of classroom winners. Schools then sent one or two winners to the district-wide competition; and

 

WHEREAS, Words at this year’s Spanish bee, included rústico (rustic), gamba (prawn), oir (to hear), pensar (to think), and carbón (carbon); and

 

WHEREAS, Sofia will ultimately showcase her skills in the prestigious Spanish National Spelling Bee that will be held July 11-12, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate and commend Sofia Chavez on this impressive and well-deserved accomplishment; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to Sofia Chavez as a means of conveying our congratulations for her service to the residents of Cook County.
